The IM-806 Nutone is a radio-intercom. The IM-806 was a difficult system to trouble shoot and can be difficult to repair. It can also be tricky to replace. One of the features of the IM-806 was it's ability to be loop wired. What this means is that each speaker is wired to another speaker making a big loop from the master station through the station speakers and finally ending up back at the master. It made wiring easy. The problem is that with the new system each room station must be directly wired to the master station. If your system is loop wired, then you may need to pull new wiring for the new system. pairs. Below we have included a station by station break down of the update. There are two options

IM-5000 Selective Call Intercom Only |
Option one is for those homes who have a loop wired system and do not have the ability to re-wire there home. The IM-5000 is a selective call intercom system. It will work on a looped system and enable you to use your existing wiring. It also has the ability to have an external music source inputed into the system. |

The IM-5000 is a surface mount unit that has no daily controls on it. You can place this on the wall or relocate it to a closet or basement. You could extend the room station loop to reach the new location of the IM-5000. If you were planning on feeding the audio output from you stereo into the system, you would run the connections to the IM-5000. |

The IM-5000 does not have a rough-in. You will need to replace the old transformer with the 401-T transformer. You basically have to repair the hole in the wall that is left by the IM-806. The other option is to purchase the master station of one of the other radio/intercoms, and use the output feature to send music to the IM-5000. Several of then will cover up the old space of the IM-806. |

Nutone has made an update frame called the IA-80 that will screw into the old IR-8 rough-in. This then enables you to mount the IR-80 rough- in for the IS-518 into the IA-80 adapter frame. Since you will be using your old rough-in to hold the adapter frame, there is no wall work required. The IA-80 is not designed to fit into the IA-80, but it can be made to work. The other option is to do some wall patching as the IS-518 is a little smaller than the ISB-88. |
