The 2561/2562 Nutone is a radio-intercom which even by today's standard is a good system. The 2561/2562 can be tricky to replace. One of the features of the 2561/2562 was it's ability to be loop wired. What this means is that each speaker is wired to another speaker making a big loop from the master station through the station speakers and finally ending up back at the master. It made wiring easy. The problem is that with the new system each room station must be directly wired to the master station. If your system is loop wired, then you will need to pull new wiring for the new system. If you are able to use your existing wiring, the 2561/2562 was an 8 wire(4 twisted pairs) system. The IM-4406 is a 6 wire(3 twisted pair system). When wiring the new system you will simply ignore one of the twisted pairs. Below we have included a station by station break down of the update.

The IM-4406 is large enough to cover the foot print made by the 2561/2562. You can simply remove the 2561/2562 and put The IM-4406 in it's place. |

The IR-105 rough-in is larger than the old rough-in. You just new to open up the old hole to fit the new rough-in. Then you would replace existing transformer with the new transformer which is included in the IR-105. |

The IS-448 which uses an IR-80 rough-in, will cover the hole of the 2570 nicely. You will simply need to open up the old hole to accommodate the new rough-in. |

Nutone has made an update frame called the IA-83 that will screw into the old IR-8 rough-in. This then enables you to mount the IR-80 rough- in for the IS-448 into the IA-83 adapter frame. Since you will be using your old rough-in to hold the adapter frame, there is no wall work required. This makes the change out easy. |

IC-401 Control

The SR-42 was mounted in a 2 gang electrical box. It can be replaced with either an IC-401 or IC-441. The IC-401 is the easiest to install because it has a larger foot print than the IC-441. The IC-401 can be recessed using an IR-81 rough-in frame. To use the IC-441 you will need to measure your hole. The IC-441 measure 7" wide and 4" high. For outside surface mounting the 2573 was mounted in a brown box, this can be discarded and replaced with an IC-401W or IC-441W which are also surface mounted units. |
